A Christmas message of hope. A gift, genuine, organic and non-plastic, from one of the world's newest, smallest and poorest countries to the rest of the world.
Great read, Alastair. I love stories about parts of the world that get themselves sorted out after years of conflict. I always got to see the conflict, not the sorted out part. It left quite a gap in my worldview
Thanks Switter. Not sure I (or the Timorese) would say they are "sorted" exactly, - still all the problems of a poor, small third world country - but choosing peace over fighting is always good. All going well, my wife and I are doing another assignment there in March, so I'll report back in future posts. (I'm having fun btw, imagining what part of the US military/industrial/intelligence/soft-power complex you were with to spend so much time in out of the way places and conflict zones. Don't tell me ... it's more fun thinking I'm sharing notes with a retired super-spy),
